BP's was quick in its response to American concern about the oil spill because it was US of A. The British are closely linked to USA both emotionally and financially.
Alas our own victims of Bhopal Gas tragedy are still struggling to get compensated!
The Oil economy will continue to be a major global economy as long as BRIC block needs fuel to fuel their economy, Global warming be damned!

A shorter write up compared to the 'American Asian policy..'.
But how about food grain production or rather the reduction of land under cultivation vis a vis our population growth affecting the WPI.
Also India is increasingly depending on food imports. Will that also effect WPI?
But yes as you said the correct balance between the quantum of rise in fuel prices and maintaining the profitability of Oil companies (many still PSUs) need to be fine tuned!

In my opinion the world is now multi polar as against the bipolar world of 90's.
If containment of China is the final aim, then we need to co-opt Russia.
China is Russia's largest and also strongest neighbour. Russia is still an emerging economy though her natural resources and technological knowledge bank is immense. Her financial sector is still in infancy. Russia is also a major exporter of weapons to China and Russia needs to maintain cordial relationships with China for its own peace.
Appreciate the efforts put in by you in this write up.
Congrats and well done.
Keep it up.
best wishes
